I am super impressed with and proud of my students for persevering and taking on the challenge of learning new mathematics! It's kind of what I live for! :)The Mathy Murkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09518226935498308758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1591780087227839882.post-49473007409790858292015-04-13T08:56:18.040-07:002015-04-13T08:56:18.040-07:00I liked how you started with a familiar right tria...I liked how you started with a familiar right triangle problem that included using trig, then extended it without first teaching the math concepts needed. Particularly nice that you had them shift their focus from finding answers to the problem to having them discover possible methods for how they might find the answers. It is magical when we can find the right situation where students take ownership of their learning and persevere because they are interested! A fascinating post – well done!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10793376982829651099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1591780087227839882.post-86374454628281993282015-04-12T08:29:18.926-07:002015-04-12T08:29:18.926-07:00Thanks, Amy! Yes, teaching them "stuff" is great, but not as impactful as teaching them how to think critically and problem solve. The Mathy Murkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09518226935498308758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1591780087227839882.post-10998361706829456602015-04-11T10:35:10.563-07:002015-04-11T10:35:10.563-07:00You nailed it with that last line!
